Angry Birds Space Eagle & Danger Zone Now Available for Android

Yes, you read it correctly! Both Danger Zone and Mighty Space Eagle are now available as in-app purchases in Angry Birds Space via the Android Market (Google Play). This was a complete surprise, and even the app description makes no mention of these additions. While “Mighty” purchases have been rumored for Android for a long time, it is interesting to note that these purchases have nothing to do with the Bad Piggy Bank system, which we believe is still in development. We were originally tipped off by @AngryBirdNerd and had a lot of help from @rdnzlrips82 and @ncisgrabert to bring you this info!

Update for Amazon: The v1.2.2 update for Utopia no only features 30 new levels across regular gameplay, but now features these fantastic goodies as well! See the Amazon section below for more information.

The Mighty Space Eagle

The Mighty Space Eagle is available in v1.2.1, which also includes the first 10 levels of Utopia. Check out the main Utopia release post for a bunch more info. Before you start flinging sardine cans wildly, there is some information that you should be aware of.

Foremost, you have a limited number of Space Eagles, displayed in the top-left corner of the level. Each time you call for a sardine can, your count goes down by one. If you’re just getting started we have an awesome Angry Birds Space Eagle guide that you might want to check out. While this has received some criticism, we ask that you please do not post your criticisms of the system here. There are a few topics in the Forum if you wish to vent.

Space Eagles can be earned using normal gameplay, or purchased in bundles. For earning and pricing information, see our in-depth Space Eagle guide, which hits all the details. See further down to see how to complete in-app purchases using Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. There is also a plethora of links at the bottom of the post, which should answer pretty much any questions you have.

Danger Zone

Danger Zone is an episode consisting of 30 incredibly difficult levels. Since they are so difficult, they must be purchased for an additional $0.99. You can play the first level for free, just to see if you think you can take the heat. After that, you need to decide whether you are capable of 3-starring these challenging levels. Of course, we are here to help you, but these levels are not for the faint of heart! For Samsung owners who have already played Danger Zone, fear not: You will continue to have access to Danger Zone for no additional charge. For Samsung owners who have not yet played Danger Zone, you will have to purchase like everyone else, sorry.

See further down to see how to complete in-app purchases using Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. If you do decide to take the highway to the Danger Zone be sure to check out our walkthroughs in the event you get stuck.

Remove In-Game Ads

If you are playing the free, ad-supported version of Angry Birds Space from the Android Market (Google Play), you may notice a new button on the front “Play” screen. It seems this option was added with the Fry Me to the Moon update, but the news slipped past us. In any event, by using either this “Remove Ads” button or by clicking the “X” to the left of any ad, you can buy away your ads for a mere $0.99 USD! This is good news, since separately purchasing the “Premium” app ex post facto does not transfer your progress between the two apps. See further down to see how to complete in-app purchases using Google Play.

In-App Purchases on Google Play

Here is a general overview on how to purchase Space Eagle bundles and/or Danger Zone using Android Market (Google Play):

  1. Open Angry Birds Space and click on the “Eagle Eye” logo on the main “Play” screen. Choose which bundle you wish to purchase. This will open Google Play.
    AND/OR
Open Angry Birds Space and go to level 2 of Danger Zone. Agree to purchase Danger Zone when prompted. This will open Google Play.
    AND/OR
Open Angry Birds Space and click on either the “Remove Ads” button on the main menu or the “X” to the left of any ad. Confirm that you want to remove ads. This will open Google Play.
  2. You should be prompted to sign in to your Google Play account.
  3. You will see a “Payment” screen similar to what appears at the top of this page.
  4. Billing is completed via Google Wallet, which appears to accept all major Credit and Debit Cards, and also allows billing directly to your mobile phone bill (excludes Verizon USA).

Amazon Appstore

While v1.2.1 has landed for Amazon, it appears that neither Danger Zone nor the Space Eagle have landed here. As for the future, time will only tell.
Well, the future has come, and Amazon now has the Space Eagle and Danger Zone available in v1.2.2. We are working on compiling all relevant information and will finalize this post soon.

Restricting In-App Purchases

Whether you want to purchase these items or not is your prerogative. But for the parents out there, here’s some good info for you, especially if you want to prevent your little ones from running up your credit card bill! While this process does not disable in-app purchases, it should protect your bank account.

Google Play: Go to Google Play Store App. Go to Menu > Settings > Set or Change PIN. Enter (and confirm) your PIN, then check the box for “Use PIN for purchases”.

Amazon Appstore: Go to the Amazon Appstore App. Go to Menu > Settings > Parental Controls > Enable Parental Controls. Enter your password for Amazon.com. If you don’t want to use your Amazon password, check the box “Use PIN” and enter (and confirm) your PIN.

I am an Android user and I paid for the Danger Zone 5 hours ago and still havent received an update. Am I doing something wrong?

There’s no update per say. Just now if you go to Danger Zone Level 2, you should be able to play.

By Susan

I realize there isn’t an “update” but something still has to happen to open the levels. When I try to it takes me to the purchase screen and then has that the item has already been purchased. I still can’t play the new levels.

By Jeremy

Did you ever receive yourDZ levels? I bought the DZ expansion as well and no ne levels yet (4 days later). I use google play for the app and the DZ purchase. Still getting the “already purchased/sale pending” message.

By Jeremy

I had to clear data to be able to get DZ levels. It stinks because I have lost all progress, but on the bright side I can earn all the space eagles while I regain progress.

It may be worthwhile to check out our Ultimate Backup guide to save your progress.

By Jeremy

Too late now because its already done. But I will check it out for the future because im thinking of upgrading phones in near future. If I can do it from old phone to new one that will be excellent in terms of the other 3 AB games and my new space progress. Thanks for the heads up!

By Jeffrey

I had the same problem, purchased DZ but never appeared in the game. I took Jeremy’s advice and cleared the data. When I started the game, I needed to play one level before I could restore my progress (I used an AB 3rd party backup app). The level I chose was DZ1. After beating it, DZ2 was unlocked so I knew the DZ purchase had finally kicked in. I restored my progress, it worked, and DZ still worked. Thanks, Jeremy! However, at the time I originally purchased DZ I also bought one of the SE bundles. That still has not appeared in the game (I bought it four days ago and even bought a second after the data wipe which also didn’t work). Anyone here have this same problem or have any ideas on how to fix it? (FYI, if it may have any bearing on this, I bought AB:Space on Amazon but made the latest update through Google Play, paying for it a second time. The DZ & SE purchases were, obviously, made through Google.)

Tried that and it work and could access the DZ next levels. When I restored the progress, I was back to where I was before with ‘Purchase pending’. Don’t know what to try next.

Still don’t have the levels

By Christopher Lengerich

I still have not received the DZ levels despite paying for them 3 weeks ago. Not really wanting to clear or back-up my data, and shocked that Android/Google Play/Rovio hasn’t fixed this problem.

Actually I can’t be of help…

I went ahead and updated from Google Play (even thouth I originally had the Amazon version). I had to pay again of course, but I was able to update without losing my progress!

Maybe now the Amazon Store sees that I have a different version and is confused, prompting me for an update (or downgrade)…? :S

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points
By AMslimfordy (@amslimfordy)

No worries man. And yes, the cue to update likely uses a “not equal to” query.

Rank: Master Slinger with 5530 points
By teogeo (@teogeo)

Which is not very smart, but anyway.
Sorry for the confusion…

I was checking Rovio’s twitter account and I saw that whoever was asking about the new update on other Android app stores they were replying that they are still working on other stores. Could this mean that IAP or even the whole Utopia update will not come very soon on Amazon? I guess maybe…

In any case, if anyone is impatient like me, this is how you can switch from the Amazon add-free version to the Google Play Premium one:

** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK **

1( Visit Google Play from a web browser and not the app.
2) Go to Angry Birds Space Premium.
3) Select to install/update.
4) Pay (again :-( ).
5) The update is supposed to start automatically on your android device when you are connected to the net.
6) The update will replace your old version and “LIKELY” will keep your current progress intact. (It did for me at least.)

7) Enjoy IAP, Space Eagle, Danger Zone, Utopia and possibly slightly earlier updates in the future! :D

Ok maybe not, I have an update notification but it still shows the old version… Weird. Can someone else confirm?

Okay, I know patience is a virtue, but please hurry Amazon. Just needed to get that off my chest, I feel better now, :). I agree Wanda. I really wish it was like computer software and you could upgrade from anywhere.

On the PC ABO was only available through AppUp forever, then AppUp stopped getting upgrades, so I had to rebuy it from Rovio. Luckily the T-Mobile version of ABO could also be upgraded from Google Play, so I didn’t have to rebuy that one, but I gather that the Amazon and Google Play versions aren’t interchangeable. I bought the Amazon version because I thought it was the only pay version.

@kathi17, I know that @kathy was able to update through google, even though she bought Space from Amazon, but I am a little apprehensive about trying that. I figure this will be the time my backup fails :).

I purchased the Danger Zone add-on several days ago and am still not able to play past D-1. I saw the post above about one user clearing their data to get it to work, but seems to be a risky gamble. Anyone else have this problem and have any other ways around this? Note, I purchased through Google Play, and am on Verizon.

Rovio is investigating this issue. To be safe, you may want to refer to our backup guide.

I messed it all up by trying to fix the problem myself and made the entire app freeze (after reboots and cache clearings- I’m a network engineer, so I’m fairly tech-savvy). Ended up clearing my data anyway, which fixed the DZ problem, but lost all my data and now the space eagle option is gone. I’ve got utopia and DZ, but no space eagle. Strange. Oh well.

Just wondering if this investigation Rovio told you about also includes purchased SE bundles which never reached the game. Thanks, Slim.

Well that’s me back up to date now thanks to this.
All previous ABSp levels now feathered at 100pc and Danger Zone 3* complete and feathered.
I really need to buy a phone with a faster processor and a bigger screen. The SE X10 mini really lags on levels with lots of blocks.
For all those on Android with data issues, before I do ANY update I always back up the data. I do this to my pc via ABD shell as my phone is rooted, however it’s easy enough to do via Titanium BackUp too. I suggest you get into the habit of doing this as it’s saved me many times.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 1 (Sprint Epic) and Danger Zone was already available when I downloaded the Angry Birds Space app/ ( I was one of the first 4,000 to download, if that means anything)
I am seeing an Eagle Feather awarded daily, plus I got 10 bonus feathers when I completed ‘Fry Me To The Moon’ with BOTH 3 stars and 100% Feather progress.

I’m an Android user and I purchased the Danger Zone levels last week, but I cannot access the other levels! Is anyone else having this problem? When I open the game, most of the time, it won’t even stay open for 5 seconds before it shuts down, but on the few occasions I am able to access the game, its still showing only the first level of Danger Zone. So when I attempt to go to level 2 and they direct me to Play store to purchase it, Play store tells me I have already purchased it. My bank statement shows that I purchased it. Not sure what’s going on.

I’ve had my Android since March 2011. I just started having issues and had to factory reset my phone which resulted in losing everything on all 4 AB games. I originally downloaded AB, ABR n AB Seasons from Google Play. When I found the ad-free versions on Amazon Appstore, I purchased those. When AB Space was 1st released, I purchased the ad-free from Amazon Appstore as well. Then v 1.2.1 for Utopia w DZ as an IAP and ME was released, I purchased the Space Premium from Google Play earning SE daily, completing levels and 3 starring all boards. After I factory reset my phone, I installed Space Premium againbut the SE is no where to be found. Not even an option to purchase preset amount. I played the first few levels of Pig Bang and DZ and still no SE. Do I have to complete a certain number of levels for SE to appear? Please help!

@ncisgrabert, you need to get to level 10 in Pig Bang, then the Space Eagle will appear!

By ncisgrabert (@ncisgrabert)

@MUFC…thanks for the reply. I spoke too soon the day I posted the above comment. I continued to play that night and got thru levels 1-10 on Pig Bang and I got 23 SE. I finished that episode n got 3 more then 3-starred Pig Bang and got 10 more. Since I posted the comment, I 3-starred all of AB Space and received a total of 69 SE (this total includes the 36 SE I got on Pig Bang).
To answer your question below, I received 10 SE for 3-starring all of DZ. I didn’t get 3 for completing DZ.
These are the SE that I received:
Pig Bang – 36 total (23 levels 1-10 / 3 completing episode / 10 3-starring entire episode)
Cold Cuts – 13 total (3 completing episode / 10 3-starring entire episode)
Fry Me to the Moon-10 total (10 3-starring entire episode)
Utopia-none (probably bcz there are more levels to be released n may get 10 when 3-starring entire episode)
Danger Zone- 10 total (3-starring entire episode)
Eggsteroids-none (those levels are 3-starred as well but I didn’t receive any SE)
For a total of 69 SE. (Of course you get a SE for opening app daily 24 hrs after opening).
I hope that helps @MUFC

@AMslimfordy – I love the SE guide but I have a question/concern or two about earning free SE. It says 23 SE for completing levels 1-10…..this only applies to levels 1-10 of Pig Bang only, correct? (If that is correct, is there a way of updating the SE guide bcz some people may think its for all levels). Which episodes apply to earning 3 SE for completing an entire episode? (I have all episodes completed and received the 3 SE for Pig Bang and Cold Cuts. If those are the only episodes, can that also be stated in SE guide?)

Rank: Sling God with 32120 points

It says “Level 1-10”, as in that specific level. We haven’t updated the details since the initial release, and I don’t recall if Fry gave any for completing/3-starring.

Rank: Fling King with 4945 points
By ncisgrabert (@ncisgrabert)

@AMslimfordy – I just read the SE guide n saw that you updated the earning SE during normal game pay section. I don’t know if its just me but I only received 10 SE for 3-starring Fry Me to the Moon but didn’t receive 3 for completing that episode. I didn’t receive any SE for Eggsteroids. I have 6 Eggsteroids with 3 stars on each. Is that the total # of Eggsteroids that everyone can get or does the 10 SE include the hidden SE on the Samsung devices that received the DZ episode? (My fiancé got the new Samsung Galaxy Note and I play all the AB on his phone and I found the hidden SE on his device. I believe those r the only devices with the hidden SE).

Hope this helps: You do not have 2 backup progress/data in order to purchase in-app updates/stuff, although backup is always a good idea. Do not set up Google Play/wallet payment info through your phone. Do it via a PC instead. You should already have your device/phone listed when it was originally registered with Google. Start the app, then select your purcase option (DZ, MSE, etc.). You must complete level 1 of DZ in order to continue to level 2, which will bring up Google, formerly Marketplace. If you do not receive the apk file or your items purchased, go 2 Google’s website and search for Google wallet support contact details. Google MUST cancel and/or credit the purchase before you can begin the process again. Make sure you have a good connection (wifi, etc.) first. Subsequently, the download should be almost instantaneous, depending upon data speed. Lastly, and in conjunction with contacting Google, contact Rovio directly via email. If you do not get a response within a couple of days, contact one or both again. They will respond, especially when you precisely explain your predicament. Happy gaming!

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but has anyone speculated about the fact that in GameCenter the achievements are called:
Danger Zone 1 – Total Destruction
&
Danger Zone 1 – Score Addict
Does anyone know for certain whether the 1 means anything significant, such as the fact there maybe a Danger Zone 2 or 3 and beyond in the future, maybe 1 a year?
If so, would Danger Zone 2 overtake number 1 or would there be 2 at the same time?

Last I heard, Rovio was not planning on adding levels to Danger Zone in the near future. The numbering was more accidental than subtle.
