The latest update for Angry Birds Rio (v1.4.2) is now available for iOS, Mac, PC, Symbian, and Android via the Amazon Appstore and Android Market, with other platforms coming soon. The update features the remaining 15 levels of Smugglers Plane and includes a bonus surprise: The Orange Bird! That’s right, our expandable new friend managed to book a flight to South America and has joined the fun.
Maybe the biggest news to come with this update is that THIS IS NOT THE END OF RIO! That’s right, this is the epic conclusion of Smugglers Plane, but there will be future updates based on deleted scenes and extras. Want proof? This Tweet from Rovio states, “Last levels of Smuggers’ Plane out, but this is not the end of Rio!” So keep your eyes peeled for news about forthcoming updates! Maybe they’ll even be a second Rio movie, Rio 2. Who knows!
This update includes:
- 15 new levels! The leaderboards and walkthroughs are up!
- 8 new mangoes to find. Refer to our videos if you need help finding them.
- New achievements to be unlocked (iOS only). Many are “hidden” achievements, so be sure to check out our list.
- Another “thrilling” boss fight!
- As said above, the Orange Bird is now available, which means the whole Angry Birds family has made an appearance.
- Pro tip! Try to hit the luggage. It’s worth 5,000 points!
- A new icon has appeared on the “Play” screen. It’s a music note that links to the Rio Samba Single on iTunes. We’re not sure if this link will be there for other platforms, so let us know.

Ok… well, I just now double checked the initial play screen for PC version, there is no music icon to d/l the song.
If you really want to listen to the song, all you need to do is lauch Rio, and the song will autostart.

Whew My angry birds picture database is complete all i need is the seasons golden eggs pictures and then it will be complete.
what do we get for getting 3 star in angry birds rio .I had got 3 star in everything for ABO.
A star added to the trophy. If your on iOS, then you gain an achievement. That’s pretty much it…
i guess the boss battle is Nigel with a new special ability to walk and to fly; do you have any walk throughs for it?

Have PC and I checked the file you were talking about but the legs are only present for Nigel and Blu but not any other bird.
the latest cutscene could be a hint for the upcoming episode … could the piggies be introduced ? pure speculation :-)
in that if u see there is photo for the mighty eagle which has not been used.so in an angry birds pc version it has all the images required by all the versions but are not used in PC.so the code of mighty eagle may be there in the data files.(just speculating)
Data files are universal across all platforms. The Mighty Eagle is in PC’s data files because the Mighty Eagle exists on iOS. That’s pretty much the only reason.

You can go to download.angrybirds.com and download the new Rio “Demo” file. Installing the new .exe should update your version of the app without disrupting your progress.

If it’s just for your personal use then that’s fine. If you plan on distributing it then, no, as you’d be violating Rovio’s copyright.

Having managed to collect the final fruit in Smugglers’ Plane (and therefore Rio) my ipad crashed and I seem to have lost all of the fruit awards although all the 3 stars and acheivements are still there. Any ideas (although it will be quite fun to find all the fruit again!)
All the 3-stars are still in-game? Then hopefully you are still in good shape. Just a hiccup in your settings file.

We have galleries already, but these little tidbits are created for posting on Facebook and Twitter.
I was at Rovio’s site today…it stated that android market has the update, but my market doesn’t have it. I am setup for automatic update also. If I get it from amazon I will be starting from scratch, correct?
When Rovio says android, it doesn’t necessarily mean the Android market. In this case, it means Amazon.

I’m not really sure, but I think you would get two separate ABR apps. (one from Android and one from Amazon)

Android Market should receive the update by the end of this week, I have heard. It’s not a guarantee, but that is likely when they will submit the update for approval.
If you install the Amazon version of the app, it should overwrite your existing app and maintain your progress.
So, would you do that, or just sit tight at this point? By the way, would you like a glass of lemonade? :)
I would wait for the Android Market update because the only version of ABR on Amazon is $0.99.
It’s up to you. You pay $.99 for the Amazon version, but it is ad-free and comes 1 week earlier. With the news that there will be future updates, it may be worthwhile. On the other hand, you will only have to wait a few more days for Market.
It’s not the money that’s the issue, it’s the progress. :)
Has anyone else noticed that the Total Score in iOS Game Center stopped updating with this release?
If I look at top score for today or this week, it does update and shows my current score minus the Golden Beachball levels, which is still less than the Total Score I had when it included those levels. I wonder if they fixed the scoring to not send the Golden Beachball level scores and since my score without them is less than it was, it just doesn’t change it. That’s purely speculation though.
If so, it could mean that the ‘not the end of Rio’ could just be opening up those levels to everyone, and then they’ll start resending those scores again?
Not sure about the last part. I don’t think it will simply open the Golden Beachball levels to everyone.
Same here – I can’t see any changes in scoring since the latest version – in my screen Manu Malin sits pegged at 20,274,850 and I’m stuck at 18,057,090 – something is buggered.

I just got it also. I checked about 2 hours ago (7:30 eastern) and it was not available. Just checked again and it was.
Downloaded, installed and just starting the new levels. WOO HOO!

One notable change with this update is the setting and highscores files location for those transferring their progress.
It’s no longer in the Applicationsupport/Rovio/AngryBirdsRio folder.
The new location is Applicationsupport/com.rovio.mac.AngryBirdsRio folder.
Hrm, interesting. Wonder why they renamed the folder. In any case, hopefully Mac users can figure this out as they go. I assume most Mac users are savvy enough to find it :)
It’s actually, from what I gathered, a more reliable way of coding the file path, much more stable.
Mac users are primadonnas lol … they never look under the hood.
