Angry Birds Rio Playground Walkthrough Level #5

Our non-Power Up strategy for Playground Level #5 is to fling three birds straight ahead. The first Blue bird should target the ice blocks in front of the main structure. The Yellow bird can break the wooden base, revealing more ice blocks beyond for the second Blue bird. The score in the video below is 87,420.

Important Note: Gamers on mobile devices are given unlimited Power Ups in the Playground episode, to practice and hone their skills. However, since not all devices are given this option, please abide by our policy of NO Power Up scores on ABN Leaderboards. Questionable scores entered without written strategy may be removed.

@playdbird — Congrats again on the high score. I was hoping to find another of your difficult, but high scoring strats. I’m still 10K below you, not to mention below average. There must be something besides trying slight variations on the video strat? Please?

Ok, got above average. First bird I split a little earlier; score should be close to 15K. Second bird aimed higher, just above wooden crate; score should be >40K. Third bird a lot higher. Split a small distance from upper horizontal ice plank. Middle bird should hit ice plank or just below. If done correctly, both wooden boxes on upper right will be taken out. Still no clue how @playdbird got above 100K.

BIG help! THX! Occasionally (very occasionally) I exceed 16K on 1st bird. 1st time following your Rx, I got 15K+ on 1stBrd & -on 2nd- hit ~43+ (just lucky with fall-out destruction). 3rd bird ended me w 97,130 ==> which is outstanding for me. I don’t *think* I even ‘grazed’ the 2 boxes in the pile at the right….. tho, MAYBE …. since I have NOT been able to even come close to the 97K again (arg); maybe tomorrow :-). {PS. NO luck w the ‘2-bird’-PdB approach (below); but, I’m notoriously lame :-) .}

CORRECTION! Re: abv: I *musta* got the 2 boxes on rt when I hit 97+K —- since I just hit ~ 96 & the boxes *got-it* :-) . In any event, MVNLA2 & PdB, THX! GREAT FUN this stuff :-). _ Rogue

Hi there @MVNLA2,

I had been trying to play this level a little more before I left my strat, since I have not been able to beat my 104K score, which I got the first day the episode debuted.
Since then I’ve gotten close to 102K, but haven’t replicated my luck.
I wanted to be sure the strat was repeatable, and I’m now certain that it is.

First, this is a two bird score:

The first bird is played like the video, but with a lot of repetition I’ve gotten the score on bird one to go over 16K a few times.
See screen shot below:

I’ve even had instances where the blues will cut through and damage the large chest which is the foundation of the next structure.
Rare, but it happens.
Every point counts, so I recommend trying to get 15.5K at least on the first bird.

In the next shot I arc the yellow bird up high, and speed boost him as he comes down, to cut through the highest chimp and into the wood below, and then into the glass/ice.
It is a rare shot, that does this, but it is do-able, and in some cases it causes the entire structure to fall, yielding the two bird finish.

Here are some screen shots that show this happening, though neither one gives a high enough score to beat my current high.

Note that in the second pic the far right chimp is alive.
If I had killed him and gotten some extra debris in the process I think the score before the three bonus birds could easily be 70K to 75K, which would give a final score of 100K to 105K.
I’m sure someone will beat my score eventually.

Since I didn’t know at the time that the 104K shot would be the high, I did not pay close attention to the detail, but my high played out pretty much as described.
I recall that there was very little debris left on the deck.

I hope that helps satisfy your curiosity.

Thanks @Playdbird — I figured it had to be a little different. Will try again later.

I’d say it’s a lot different.

I just had a first bird score of 16,620 with one wood block left before the larger right structure.
Not sure if 17K is achievable with the first bird, but the possibility is there for the lucky flinger.

THX! I can make the 1st shot @ ~15+K fairly consistently; I haven’t (yet) seen 16K :-). After reading your contributions, I spent a while trying for the 2-birder’. Finally, it came thru ….. score of 86,040 …. which was VERY disappointing :-(. Just a bit ago, tho, I made another 2-Brdr & made a 91,950 —- which indicates that *maybe* I’m on the right ‘track’ (I can’t see a high score w/o YOUR way – but that’s me :-O .) Breaking 100 on this one seems like it’ll take some good fortune on my part; &, I use a PC (which I *pretend* is WHY my score isn’t higher { BUT, Re: ‘strategy’ & RESULTS, I agree w one of your comments, below, “I’d say it’s a lot different.” } : – } _ Rogue
