Angry Birds Rio Airfield Chase Walkthrough Level 23 (10-8)

Airfield Chase level 10-8 is a bit challenging because it is rather unpredictable at times. Nonetheless, our strategy is to fire the first Big Brother onto the down-slope of the second “wave” of tubes. He will bounce and slam into the top-left corner of the structure, destroying everything to the right. To reach the cages in the bottom-left, fire Big Brother relatively flat but such that he lands on the final down-slope. This should keep him low enough to break those cages. The score in the video below is 117,810.

you are right, I follow this method but if you lob 1st bird with high trajectory and drop in the middle of the tubes, it will bounce and hit the expected area with better result

Totally lucky shot. Fired 1st shot halfway up tower, toppling to the right, leaving two cages on the right. I quickly fired 2nd bird to clean up the far right. While that bird was in air there was an explosion on the right, destroying the remaining two cages and most of the remaining debris. The second shot was a waste; had I been more patient it would have been a 1-birder with another 10k. To be honest, I can’t repeat, nor provide more details. S got 137090 with two birdies…first one at the very first blue tube which takes out everthing but the last two bird cages, very repeatable for 80K+ scores. second bird to pink and green tubes coming down off the end of the slope. Obviously there are various outcomes but my first shot was very consistant to get the first half and middle and suitcase plus gas cans and lots of debris.

Thanks @AngryAdvisor! After a couple of months thinking about this shot, what I think happened was the blue jug or a barrel was pushed onto a tube on the far right, went airborne, and crashed down on the two cages. Once in a lifetime lucky. :-)

Holy moley, @pourpete. I stumbled on this page because it was today’s challenge, and then saw this insane score. I have to ask, though – are you completely sure that there were no double-counted birds? 32k above the next-highest score (i.e. what you would have had if you hadn’t thrown the second bird) would be, I think, completely unprecedented on any level in any AB game.

Frankly, I don’t actually see how it’s possible to get the amount of destruction you did. With two birds leftover as you had, you would need 150k of cages+destruction. Just doing a quick-and-dirty comparison with the video, which had 98k, destroying every single one of the leftover pieces might give something like:

1. 2x suitcases at 5k each = 10k
2. 8x wooden blocks at ~1k each = 8k
3. 9x pieces of ice at ~800 each = 7k
4. 14x pieces of stone at ~1.5k each = 21k
5. 13x miscellaneous objects at 500 each = 7k (I may well be wrong, but I don’t think that the wire, wheels, etc. rack up damage points beyond the 500 they earn from being destroyed)

So, if my approximations are right – and they may well not be – a score of 170k with two birds left would require you to destroy all but about three objects. I just don’t see how that’s possible; I’m not sure that anything can realistically do much damage to the entire foundation or the glued-together glass rooftop, for example. That said, does anyone else have better figures than I do for approximately how many points blocks of different types score on average?

Anyway, I’m pretty sure that what happened was that you got 130k of cages+destruction, and then the Rio double-counting glitch struck, and you were awarded 10k twice for each of the two remaining birds. The 150k you would have gotten is still a truly awesome score, and it would obviously still be No. 1 on this level. But I think what’s been done in these cases in the past is to have the user enter the score they would have gotten without the double-counting. Someone with more authority and experience than me needs to chip in, though.

Thanks @xebic88 and nice score to you! Let me be a little more clear. I fired the secondshot to destroy the remaining two cages. While the bird was in mid-air something took out the cages and much of the remaining debris. The second shot was totally unnecessary. Had I been a little more patient I never would have fired it.

Wow, @AustinRHL you sure went to a lot of trouble to prove a score I can’t explain wrong! ;-)

I wasn’t aware of the Rio Double-counting glitch. From what I now understand, it double counts any remaining/leftover crates. If your suspicion is correct that this glitch is responsible for my score, then here’s what would have happened.

1) there were two remaining/leftover cages. Each were destroyed for a total of 10,000 points.
2) The glitch would add another 10,000 points (I.e., the double.
3) therefore the unearned points were 10,000.

There’s no way to prove if my score was the result of this glitch, nor can we definitely say what the maximum points per level are.

As this score does seem to defy logic, and you offered a plausible explanation I am more than happy to accept your explanation. I don’t agree with your math, however and think what I explained above is a more realistic accounting for this glitch.

I’d be interested in what other people think about this. I am prepared to reduce my score by the 10,000 points per unless there is another plausible explanation.

@pourpete – Yeah, I ended up going a little overboard, but it was kind of a fun challenge to try to figure out what happened. :) Let me clarify the glitch a bit, though; I didn’t explain it properly because I thought you had run into one of the comments about it before. It isn’t the cages that are double-counted; it’s the leftover birds. See Yegg’s comment in the 11-15 thread for one example (https://www.angrybirdsnest.com/angry-birds-rio-smugglers-plane-walkthrough-level-11-15/). So going off what you remember about the level, I think this is what happened:

1. You fired the first bird, and (perhaps with the aid of the flying gas can that you postulated) you managed to clear all cages with the first bird. The score at this point would have been 130,680.

2. You inadvertently shot the second bird even though all cages had been cleared. (As you said, this really is a shame, because that would have been an even more amazing score!) This bird bounced straight over the structure and did no damage. This would have left two Terences remaining at 10k each, giving you a would-be score of 150,680.

3. You hit the pause button at some point during or just after the counting of the two leftover Terences. When you returned to the game, it counted both Terences a second time, giving you an extra 20k and thereby giving you a final score of 170,680.

Again, this is purely speculation, because unlike some cases before, you didn’t actually see the birds being counted twice. I’m not really sure that there’s enough evidence to say that you didn’t earn the score legitimately. It just seems to be the likeliest cause.

This level started out to be very challenging to play but after a while it was fun to see where all the birds will go and the destruction they would do. Got a one bird solution a few times using AA first shot and also bouncing it off the second pink tube from the left but the scores were lower but I think that was due to having more debris remaining. Also used three birds with AA shots and a third for cleanup of a debris pile with scores in the 130k range.

I agree with @lesleyg first shot off the 1st blue tube, it’s easily repeated & I’ve often had scores of 90k+ after. My problem is with the 2nd shot, I can’t hit a spot reliably to destroy the rest. Got my current score with 3 birds & lots of destuction.
I find this level really hard to play. Fully zoomed in, there’s so much movement on the screen because of the distance the bird travels, it swings over to the structure so I don’t even see the bird hit the tube. Makes me dizzy. Zoomed out, everything is too small for my old eyes to aim properly. I’ve settled for somewhere in between, but I can’t aim with the accuracy I would like.
