Angry Birds Lands on BlackBerry Playbook!

The long-awaited release has come to an end for RIM users! Rovio announced on their Twitter today that all three Angry Birds apps are available in the BlackBerry App World. This release has been a long time coming, having heard about the development back in May (here’s an old post).

Despite the delay, I’m sure RIM users are quite happy about this release. Here are some details.

  • The three apps cost $4.99 USD each.
  • The versions are ABo v1.6.3 (all of Mine and Dine); Seasons v2.0.0 (Ham’o’ween); and Rio v1.3.2 (Airfield Chase).
  • According to the App World pages, these are available for all carriers in all countries, except for South Korea. (If you are a South Korean, you will have to ask Rovio or RIM about this.)

If any Playbook users can provide us with more details, it would be greatly appreciated. As far as I can tell, the Mighty Eagle is not in any of these releases. (I don’t see anything about in-app purchases, and I don’t see anything in the reviews that mention it. But I’m OK with being wrong if users have found otherwise.)

To all of our new Playbook brethren, welcome to the Angry Birds community and to the ultimate Angry Birds fan site!

Surprised Rovio went that way. RIM is a dying company and the Playbook sales have just been horrible. I’m surprised it’s still being sold. =/

This will probably get Angry Birds more downloads now.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that because Playbook sales are horrible right now and they probably wouldn’t make too many downloads.

I believe Flash development was discontinued by Adobe, wasn’t it?

Nice for Playbook users, but when are us HP WebOS users going to get Mine & Dine, Ham’O’Ween, and Airfield Chase?

You would have to ask Rovio.

merci! is there a ME for BB or not? cause in the screenshot of the post it says “in addition the mighty eagle is available for seasons!…” or is this for any other device?

I believe they simply took the iOS description and copied/pasted. Again, to my knowledge, no ME on BlackBerry. But we should wait until a BB user comments.

I don’t think this is a particularly amazing update… RIM and Blackberry are going downhill and they’re not getting a lot of revenue. I’m surprised Rovio still went for this.

Rovio had spent a lot of money on this launch, over the course of about 6 months. They might as well take a shot at it. To be honest, they have the cash to spare on this risk.

Does it include Wreck the Halls? Because the app icon is the hamoween one.

Seasons on BB is v2.0.0 according to App World, which is Ham’o’ween. I believe I have all 3 version listed in the post.

Why don’t they have the latest versions (2.0.0 AB 2.1.1 for ipad AB seasons and 1.4.0 AB Rio)?

You would have to ask Rovio.

BTW, Seasons on iPad is running 2.1.2.

I don’t understand the mentality that not much money will be generated by PlayBook sales. Literally millions are in the hands of people and being actively used. Ask any developer who has a popular PlayBook app.

Which is the reason why the three apps were released for Playbook. Alternatively, I don’t believe Playbook is quite as popular as BB would have hoped, which is perhaps the reason why the apps are not frequently updated.

Pure speculation on my part.
