You’ve heard it here on AngryBirdsNest first! Angry Birds will land on Facebook on Valentine’s Day 2012! Rovio has created a public event on Facebook, so feel free to “join” and follow the updates as they come. We will obviously be reporting them here as well.

- Be sure to check out our Angry Birds Facebook Power-ups Explained article, which is dedicated to these power-ups. It contains up-to-date information about each power-up, including some fun teaser videos. It will also be updated with more frequency than this post.
- We’ve added a teaser video released by Rovio below. This video reveals some actual game play, which will be unlike anything we’ve seen. From what I can tell it looks like it will be Flash based and contain some completely new options, animations, and full screen capabilities. It also looks like the Mighty Eagle will be available, but doesn’t look to be unlimited use.
Power-ups
That’s right! We’ll see power-ups like birds on steroids, earthquakes, and more. The numbers in red below each icon means they’ll be limited use. You’ll be able to purchase power-ups for $0.99 or earn them via game play (how remains a mystery). Unlike the Mighty Eagle, power-ups can be used to help pump up your scores, thus improving your ranking on the leaderboard. It also looks like you can use more than one power-up at a time.
I’m going to go out on a limb and speculate as to what the five power-ups shown in the screenshot are, but feel free to chime in below as well (or better yet, Rovio, let us know what they are):
Leaderboards
Angry Birds Facebook will include interactive leaderboards where you can compete with your friends. This makes complete sense, as it wouldn’t be “social” without them. This will probably be similar to Angry Birds on Google+ and some of the other web-based versions; however, the power-ups will definitely add a new twist (and layer of complexity). While many will love this, my gut tells me many hardcore Angry Birds players will not. Fortunately, we still have our leaderboards, where can compete on a much more level playing field. I for one am excited to check out all the power-up options and think it could be great fun. On the other hand, I just hope it doesn’t get too crazy, as I like competitions to be fair.
The History of Angry Birds on Facebook
If you recall (probably not), last March we reported rumors that Rovio was working on a Facebook app, so it’s been in development for sometime. That said, details about game play are vague at the moment, so we don’t know if it will be similar to, say Angry Birds on Google+, or if dramatic changes are in store. In our post last March Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio, said, “there will be completely new aspects to [Angry Birds on Facebook] that just haven’t been experienced in any other platform,” and due to Facebook’s ‘collaborative nature’, “the pigs will have a more prominent role”.
While we wait on details, I suggest you prepare by:
- Following us on Facebook (if you already haven’t). By all of us joining forces it will help us unlock “teamwork” or collaborative levels (read: like Google+). I actually don’t know if there are any, but better safe than sorry.
- Join Rovio’s the public event on Facebook.

Chinese new year, Dragon Boat Festival and Mooncake Festival is China’s most three important festival every year. So ABs will have Dragon Boat Festival (2012/May/25)?

I am anti-facebook, as well, but there are plenty of other options to get my AB fix. Any one know if there is a way to join facebook and stay anonymous? Maybe use a pet’s name? Just thought I would check; thanks in advance for any input.

You could actually create an account with any name you want.
That could prove useful, provided I can remain more or less anonymous, and not get spammed. I’m willing to see how it goes. Perhaps now, Facebook can hold genuine value for me.

I don’t like FB either. I expect you have to give them an email address for it? I do have two accounts which I don’t use, one with my Yahoo mail and one with Google. I don’t want to play on either, because I don’t want to log in. Too many relatives who think I need to post all my personal info, and want me to play Farmland. (If Farmland is even still on there). I don’t like the fact that every time they play, they release MY information. Not to mention all of the other garbage they spam me with. If I played Angry Birds on there, then they would now I was on, and expect me to participate in everything.

I don’t think it will be like G+ or Farmville. I bet Rovio has come up with something completely new that I, for one, can’t even imagine. They are awfully clever, those AB folks. Can’t wait to see what they do next.
Not a facebook fan, but it wil probably be like g+. If it is I hope they have new themes. The teamwork part is fun.

For us non-facebook users, can you give us some clue about what you mean by following you on facebook to unlock teamwork levels. And what happens if we “join” event???
The “Teamwork” levels are specific to Google+ right now. They’re called teamwork because they’re only unlocked after certain conditions are met, such as the total number of stars you and your friends have achieved. We created a “circle” on Google+ that people could join, which allowed everyone to unlock the special teamwork levels quicker than normal. I don’t know if there will be anything similar on Facebook, but by liking our Facebook page you’re not only supporting us, but preparing for any AB goodness that might be connected to it.
By joining the event on FB you’ll be reminded about it and receive updates via FB. Not a lot to it really.

Any idea if their will be a Valentines release for Seasons on iOS? Or do we just know about the Facebook game?
This is the only announcement of future plans that I have heard. It is not clear if Rovio will be releasing an update to the normal “Seasons” app in February. We have been a bit spoiled with updates lately.
Will you be able to AB facebook on android? (Because you cannot play g+) How is your leaderboard going to work?
It does not say whether it will be accessible on mobile devices.
We will not allow those scores to be entered on our leaderboards. It’s not fair.
That was my thought about the scores also, because your not comparing apples to apples.

Right on the money. I guess maybe more space for these new features on facebook.
I think Rovio wants to avoid fully revamping the graphics on an existing app, since these would need to be reflected in so many portals.
Yes, don’t get me wrong, I understand the pros and why they do it on facebook, but I wouldn’t mind having something similar in Google+ rather than just some teamwork levels that have not been updated since summer! ;-)
Either way, I’m excited to play the new facebook AB game in some weeks!
Guess I am a purist, not sure I will like the powerups. But I can’t wait for this version to come out and give it a try.
762 levels on my driod, 100 (guessing, didnt count) levels on chrome (which are basically repeats, but nice to play on a 24″ flat panel as opposed to my 3″ droid) and no who knows how many levels for FB.

I just read the update, and I would pay good money for the mega slingshot idea. How many times have I wished for that one??
I just hope that the gameplay stays as original as the other three apps and should not over-do something. Power-Ups make a little change to the whole thing but change is nice!

I don’t like that you buy upgrades and they count towards your score… to e that sounds like cheating, cuz if ur a billionaire then u would be the top of the leaderboard even if u kinda suck @ AB

It is not clear if this will be a Valentine’s episode. It looks like its Poached Eggs level’s.
There are some screenshot of Mighty Hoax too. Also it looks like there may be a set of bonus levels.
Maybe this is the “Angry Birds Mystery game in the works” game that you guys are talking about.
I dont think so. This is a totally different platform of Angry Birds and the mystery game in-works is going to be a local based themed game.
