We just posted a teaser about Angry Birds Friends yesterday and today it has officially launched (teaser video). Angry Birds Friends is an updated and re-branded version of the original Angry Birds Facebook game. It’s more than just a face-lift though, as Angry Birds Friends includes some awesome new features, including:
- Weekly tournaments where you can compete with your friends. Per Rovio, “Every week, you have from Monday to Sunday to compete with your friends on four different levels. The pig-popper with the best overall score will earn a gold trophy, with silver and bronze for second and third place. Unlike crowns, trophies are yours forever!“
- Each week there will be four levels exclusively available in tournament mode
- You can earn power-ups — in addition to the daily rewards — by playing against your friends in tournament mode. Per Rovio, “Earn three power-ups bundles for a gold trophy, two for silver, and one for bronze. You also get a power-up for each tournament level you play, and one for participating in the tournament!”

- Week 2 walkthrouhgs are live
- Week 1 walkthrouhgs are live
- As it stands right now past scores will not be available once the tournament completes, so be sure to enter your weekly tournament scores into our Facebook leaderboard while it’s still open. Trophies you earn will stay.

Nice additions Rovio! This kind of reminds me of ABN for some reason…. Maybe we could have features like these in a future date? :)
The Level of the Day feature I’m working on right now will be similar in some ways. I think Rovio should create an ABN specific episode or app. :)

@birdleader – Any chance you could get Rovio to approve imbedding the weekly levels here as well so those of us who refuse to get Facebook accounts can play? We won’t get powerups and the like, but I will take what I can get.
It seems to be a clear and conscious effort on Rovio’s part to disable embedding of these levels.

Probably not, you’ll notice a “previous results” button in the lower right corner of the screen.

See my note above. It looks like our scores won’t be logged for now, but any trophies will remains. Take away: Get your scores into our Facebook leaderboard while the tournament is open.
Log your scores, you won’t see them again. Only the trophies persist.

On my facebook, the “previous results” button is missing.
The button will be available when the next set of levels are released and then you can see your previous results.
any topic for strategy tips for the levels on weekly anywhere on the site?
The walkthrough pages will be up soon, and on a weekly basis thereafter with each new tournament.

The tournament concept looks interesting when coupled with a weekly time period. Motivates a group of folks to work together. The graphics look fresh and clean. Very inviting with the blues, yellows, etc.
Will this work on facebook’s iPad app, mobile safari, both, or neither? Just curious.
I guess it will work on any browser with flash support. But not entirely sure.
AB Friends is flash based, and won’t work on iOs devices, if that’s the question?

ya I too liked it. I’m first on my list of friends with 410k. I want some more competing friends in face-book, i think. or a leader-board to see how good my score is. Let the walk through go live, then we can see, some other ABN members scores too.

The stars obtained on these levels don’t count towards your total star count. Does that mean these levels will disappear after the week is over.

With a new tourny every week, you guys are going to be busy if you plan on having a leaderboard each for each week.
That is the plan as of now. Busy is good. Right?
I would think leaderboards are easy compared to videos
Leaderboards are good. But since this is a kind of competition, I think walkthroughs are unfair. Bad player should not be rewarded for getting good results by using a strategy from any walkthrough video.
Who are we hurting though? When you really think about it, the reward is a digital gold trophy. It’s not like we are depriving anyone of millions of dollars.
When you really think about it, you make walkthrough videos to help people to win digital gold trophies. It is YOU who should think about the necessity of such videos.
If they were only online the following week (after the competition is over), I would not say anything.
I understand but think you have missed my point. What competition? It’s a battle. Stereo you and your friends for a digital trophy, which is not actually real.
Not to mention the video is just a demonstration of one way it could be done. It is very rarely the end all ultimate high score strategy.
You know… I really wish that Rovio would update the pig’s graphics on ABO and ABS to the new look. I don’t know if that’s really possible at this point though.
I don’t regularly play AB Facebook, but the tournament feature it definitively worthy of check it out. I’ve just scored 3 stars on all 4 levels from this week.

I have a question: Some episodes exist on different platform, e.g. Poached Eggs on AB original, on AB Friends (on facebook) and on AB Chrome.
Is the 3 star treashold always the same for the levels in different games?
It’s easier to get 3 stars if you use a power-up, so the treashold for AB Friends should be higher than e.g. on iOS.

Yes. And the titel has changed as well. It is not AB Facebook any more, now it’s callêd AB Friends.

That would be really cool, but I doubt it as well.
I wonder if the ‘previous results’ will become available once there are actually previous results to show, i.e. when the next tournament starts. As it is now, there are no previous result, thus no need for the button. I guess only time will tell! :)

Very few mobile devices support flash player.
For example Apple devices can’t play AB Facebook as well.

with this they will be delivering 4 levels per 7 days or 60 levels in 15 weeks.now they should also add these levels to ABoriginal so that we can atleast play a level we couldnt do because of time problems. Also i would like to ask that the can the tournament also happen on ios devices using gamecenter ? is it possible

2. Probably not, ABO has reached the maximum number of leaderboards for GameCenter already. I’ve also never heard of time-limited leaderboards in GC either.

If you get that e-mail, do NOT follow directions. Log on to facebook directly and report to them; also report to your e-mail provider.
I heard those kinds of scams before… it’s a shame what people do these days.
