Great news for Mac and PC users, as Rovio has released the latest update of Angry Birds just in time for the holidays! The Birdday Party (as in, Birthday Party) update launched on iOS devices on December 11th, the second birthday of the app, and features 15 new birthday-themed levels and a new Golden Egg.
First, if you were on the fence about getting the PC app, now is the time to do it. Rovio announced in their newsletter that from December 23rd through the 25th, all three Angry Birds apps are on sale for $0.99 USD each at the Angry Birds shop.
Next, the Mac and PC update includes many of the same new features listed in the mobile release, so be sure to check that out for more details.
Notice to Mac users: It seems that many Mac users are missing the datafile which includes the “expanded Orange Bird” imagery. We contacted Rovio, and they said they have already submitted a patch update to Apple. v2.0.1 has landed as a “stability fix” for Mac! This seems to solve the “Orange Bird Inflation” issue, but some users are still reporting super-sensative trackpads.
Notice to Mac and PC users: v2.0.2 has been released. This fixes the Golden Egg 1 bug, the trackpad sensitivity issue, the scores ending in 9 bug, and a few other small things.
Now, updates unique to Mac and PC.
- Mac and PC do not seem to have the new “Rovio Channel” pause screen.
- The Episode Selection screen has received a cool new makeover. But as Sal9 reports, the background of the Level Selection screen on Mac is a bit buggy. (We will be sure to tell Rovio about this.)
- The Golden Egg page has been changed to match mobile devices. No more do Mac/PC users have to deal with the massive one-page layout of Golden Eggs! (Complete Golden Egg Guide with imagery.)
- The three “Facebook Levels” of Ham ’em High have been added, which we have video walkthroughs for here. While this may not seem like that big of a deal, I think it’s safe to assume they will be added to Seasons as well, which means 1 more Golden Egg in Easter. Even more significantly, it means Mac and PC users can compete on an even keel on our leaderboards!
- Note: You may have lost the star on a Golden Egg or two. Simply re-defeating that level should get you the star back.
Bug Fixes!!
- Bug 19 has been fixed: You may obtain the star on the Big Brother Soundboard multiple times now.
- Bug 15 has been fixed: The Rio Football Golden Egg is now labeled as GE-22 instead of GE-20.
- Bug 22 seems to be fixed: The Rio Golden Egg (13-12) should be attainable by all now. Many users have reported the Egg simply appearing on the Golden Egg page, as though they had obtained it before. If you have more information, please let us know.

The full PC games are quite a bit more manageable than the browser-based games. My computer lags terribly on Chrome, Pistachio, and all of those. But the full app runs very smoothly.
I will 2nd Slim’s comment about the online version(s). especially Volcano and pistillate, and to a great extent the Chrome Online since it’s been updated and Google+ versions. They all leave a lot to be desired as far as speed.
The PC versions installed on my machine are all very speedy and controllable.
Does somebody have a direct link to the pc 2.0 update? I get an error if I want to download the trial version from the rovio site.

No, it’s quite easy in Mac/iOS. It’s just log in, set price, save. I know because I’ve developed apps before.
When you buy one of the Angry Birds games it says: Please note! We are currently experiencing issues with sending game activation keys to @comcast.net email addresses. Please use an alternative email when making the purchase!
What does that mean?
In all likelihood, Comcast accidentally added Rovio’s Key-Generating email address to the blacklist. So if you’re email address is — @comcast.net, you may want to try something else. If you have no alternative, be sure to check your Spam Folder.

Usually I get notice of an update when I open the app. Am getting no such notice today. Do I have to buy the app again to get the update?
You shouldn’t have to pay for an update.
I didn’t think so, never have had to before, but the notification didn’t show up when I opened. Is there another place to go, rather than http://download.angrybirds.com/#ABS?

you can just download the trial again and install it, it’ll keep track that you’re registered and all of your progress. Really it’s the same thing that their built in updater does, you’re just bypassing it. The other option is to wait another day or two, it’s not set up to check everyday, so if you wait till tomorrow you’ll probably get a message about it
Thank you so much, reddo, for the response. I even tried buying the app again, believing that 99 cents is fair price for the update. Site wouldn’t let me use my debit card because my spousal unit has a paypal account which I do not use. Took your advice and installed the free demo and am up and running with old scores and new look! Am grateful. I guess you know, though, I am totally addicted to this! Shame on you for enabling an addict!! LOL

I completed the game (all GE and 3 stars) and closed the game. When I opened it up again later, it asked me to buy the full version. Strange though all my progress was saved. I just used my activation code and I could play all the levels again. Has anyone else had any troubles like this?
I’ve had it happen when I’ve replaced my settings file, and I’ve heard of people having it happen occasionally. It’s a good reason to save those activation codes, eh?
I played the game yesterday and today and restarted it at least three times, but when I just started it (for the fourth or fifth time after the 2.0 update), the game asked me for my activation code. Sadly I’m not at home, so I can’t access it (I have the CD-ROM version from Germany, where the code is printed on the CD box)…
Now I can’t get the last star and have to wait when I’m at home again in two weeks…
It’s a really annyoing bug…
Not sure about other users that have not been able to obtain the Rio Golden Egg, but I cannot.
I tried bombing every part of that nook in 13-12, but still nothing.
Not sure what the bug really is, but maybe Rovio can just give us this egg in the next update?

Ok… here’s what I did.
Went back old school style, backed up my saved folders, and uninstalled ABO.
Reinstalled it, checked the Golden Eggs section and it was there. I didn’t even go back to level 13-12.
Not sure if that will work for others that may not have it, but it did for me.
So the Rio Egg is there in 2.0.0.
It’s been bugged on some, but not others. We will have to wait and see what happens with some other users. I hope it’s fixed.

Same problem here for the initial install, and a couple of updates. NO Rio egg. After the Birdday updates it was in the golden egg page without my having to go looking for it again. So, I’m thinking we’ve had it all along, and this update finally caught up to the fact there is(was) a bug hiding it on the GE page.

We didn’t say for certain. We said “Possible” — I have no way of confirming one way or another, since I obtained the egg already.

i obtained it pryor to downloading the update and now that i downloaded the update it isnt there anymore

After loading my most recent comment, the post looked diffrent. The comments stopped 12 comments above this comment. Then at the very bottom there was no reply box and anything under that. The last thing was a comment from powerbird with the original no picture picture. It said a bunch of wierd stuff like “At Fatal Error <4 78 P.M." and "comment timeout 30 seconds of loading". There was really wierd stuff in the body of the reply that I can't remember. I refreshed the page and it was all back to normal, and my most recent post appeared.

A minor miracle with the Angry Birds Birthday update. Mine has never shown the Rio football egg. With this update it was there without my having to go activate it. I am pleased about that!
Does anyone else have a glitch in their Mac version? On Level 2, when you fire off the first bird, the game freezes upon its explosion. No way around it.
Have you tried restarting your Mac to clear up some RAM? I haven’t heard anything thus far.

I have a question, what limitation do the trial versions have? I’ve played each of them for about 30 minutes now, and I want to get the full for PC. But it sounds like you have unlimited play. Is there a time limitation or a level limitation?
I believe it’s a level limitation. If I remember correctly (before v2.0.0), you could only play the first 21 levels of Poached Eggs. I’m not sure of the limitation in the current version, but perhaps it’s something similar.

On iOS, it earns an achievement. Besides that, it’s just a neat little tidbit; nothing more.
So now do all PC games have the Episode Selection sliver menus? Or does Seasons have the classic episode selection screen?
Seasons has had the “sliver” style since its release in November.
I wish all devices would get the “sliver” menus. It looks nicer.
i like it better 2. i like how u can c the gameplay bg in it, and its easier 2 use. u still hav 2 scroll, but u dont have 2 scroll a million times.
I Like the origional menus better on my iTouch because it’s easier to press on my small screen, but when the screen is big, u find the “Sliver” style better.

Mac version crashes every time I try to expand the Globe Bird. I get the message “attempt to index global ‘flyingBird’ (a nil value) (call stack not available)”.
